Object Linking

The last element we'll add to our page is an image. We'll do this with the Link Object command found in the Web Menu. The Link Object command allows you to take a particular type of file and embed it into your page. There are several types of files we can put on our page.

File: image files including animated Gif's.
Web: an image from web page or site
Plug-in: browser enhancer's such as Real Audio
Applet: javascript applets
Flash: files created in the .swf format
Shockwave: movies created with Shockwave
Video: movie formats such as .mpeg and quick time

1. Deselect any objects that are active.
2 From the Web Menu choose Link Object > File
3. The Open dialog appears. Browse to shan90.jpg in your My Site Files folder. This was included in the zip file you downloaded.
4. The image now appears on your page and you can drag it where every you want.

Note that you cannot edit this picture directly on your page. Any editing has to be done on the original. If you need to edit the image:

1. Right click on the image and choose Edit Linked Object.
2. Read the message box that appears and click OK.
3. The original image will open in PI and you can make any changes to it.
4. Once you are done, save the original to the same place it was opened .
5. On your page, select the linked image.
6. Go to Web Menu > Web Attributes > Refresh Link

This will tell PI that you changed the image and PI will update it on your page. Your image should now be on your page with the changes you made.

Your page should look similar to the one above. Unfortunately, it's pretty drab and sparse, so we will dress it up a bit for the finishing touches.
